2009 Most Improved Driver, First NATIONAL Win

The 2009 season ended on a high note with at the Double National races at High Plains Raceway September 4-5. Christine raced to her first National win on Saturday, then set her fastest qualifying lap to date and took home second place on Sunday. That adds up to 3 wins for the season, plus about 9 seconds shaved from High Plains qualifying times since the first event in May. The SCCA took note and gave Christine the 2009 Most Improved Driver Award. She finished third in both the National and Regional points championships.

Quickest qualifying yet in September at HPR set during a battery failure that was robbing power!

A season highlight: running out of fuel on a test day. Who needs a gas gauge anyway?

Richard Petty Driving Experience

Pikes Peak International Raceway (PPIR) invited Christine to the Grand Opening "Media Challenge" event celebrating Richard Petty's decision to make his Driving Experience programs a permanent fixture in Colorado. Although driving a NASCAR was a treat, we are sticking with open wheel! Read the report on Examiner.com.

Marketing Events

2009 Rocky Mountain Audio Fest
The Audio Fest was a huge hit again this year! The show set record attendance levels despite the soft economny and struggling audio industry. Spectators seemed to enjoy the change of scenery, as shots of the race car are popping up in audio blogs and photo albums like these: J.Stachowski, AVSforum.

Colfax Cruise
Mazda of Lakewood hosted a special car show on their lot as part of the Colfax Cruise and Poker Run in September. Christine was a "local celebrity" judge for the car show and a guest on Kurt Hansen's Race Central Radio show broadcasting live from the lot.

Good Life Expo
SCCA Enterprises and Audio Unlimited partnered to put a racing and high end audio booth together for the Colorado Good Life luxury goods expo in September. Christine designed special literature on spec racing with SCCA for the booth (click cover to download but beware it's a giant file).

Creme de la Chrome Hot Rod Show

The last event of the 2009 season! Come see the car on display at the center of "Race Car World" at the Creme de la Chrome Hot Rod Show. Friday-Saturday-Sunday November 27-29, the weekend after Thanksgiving, at the Denver Western Stock Show Complex. Race Car World is a partnership between High Plains Raceway, SCCA, Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing, the Motorcycle Racing Association and Mazda of Lakewood Racing. The Chrome car show will feature hundreds of hot rod entries plus dozens of vendors, celebrity hot rod guests and an art show. More details.

Plans and Goals for 2010

Racing
Racing will start up again in Colorado beginning with a National racing event in early May at Pikes Peak International Raceway (PPIR). A tentative schedule of races is posted on the news page. We will focus primarily on National events with the goal of winning the Rocky Mountain Championship and making a competitive run at the National Runoffs at Road America in September. With any luck a winter testing trip to California with an early season race on the way home in Phoenix will warm things up for the season.

Marketing
Mazda USA has already invited the team to be featured in the Denver Auto Show Mazda booth again next year. THANK YOU to Mazda of Lakewood who have already begun plans for their 2010 QuantSPEED sponsorship. We will team up in the paddock and at car shows to display Mazdaspeed gear and new production cars. Other marketing events we hope to visit again include the Cerebral Palsy Concours de Elegance, the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest, The Colfax Cruise and the Creme de la Chrome Hot Rod Show.
