QuantSPEED Newsletter --- September 2009 Team Quantspeed FIRST WIN!! Saturday August 22 marked the first time Christine has both qualified on pole and taken a race win. She repeated the feat on Sunday and we came home with two trophies! The race was made extra exciting with lots of close racing with another Formula Mazda. The first video shows the race start - watch the red FM pass on the inside of turn 2, then watch Christine pass him back in lap 2 at the end of the long straightaway. The second video is the quickest lap of the weekend, clocking in at a 1:52.1 (the FE track record is currently 1:50.7, just 1.4 seconds quicker). Finding SPEED
My new found speed and confidence in the car is largely due to the incredible support I've received from Carl - the best crew chief ever - plus recent
coaching from Mike Pettiford of GO 4 IT Racing Schools and track side support and setup from Chris Doyle of Surface Exploration. I am learning that
small changes in my driving style or precision can mean big drops in lap times. And I am realizing how small changes in setup can dramatically impact
how the car drives. A good example was a rear wing change - over the course of several sessions the team gradually reduced the incline angle of the upper wing
surface. With the surface nearly parallel to the ground we should expect less downforce and less drag - resulting is less rear
tire grip and higher top speeds on the straights. Like clockwork the car felt lighter - almost on tip toes - and I suddenly needed to shift into 5th
gear on the back straight because my terminal speed was so much higher. Other changes - some of them confidential! - have made a similar impact. Even
if no speed is gained per se, some changes simply make it easier for me to drive the car by improving feedback. I'm fascinated by the progress and
very greatful for the outside expertise! What's the next area of focus? Race craft! Pass and don't get passed! ![]() Marketing: SCCA Enterprises PR -- Good Life Expo -- Audio Fest As promised to our sponsors, quantSPEED continues to make an effort to have car and driver out in the public eye as much as possible. Christine was recently asked to join SCCA Enterprises Inc. as a PR consultant. She is helping develop marketing print collateral and a trade show booth at the upcoming Good Life Expo where driver and car will be on display. Additionally, look for the car at the 2009 Rocky Mountain Audio Fest October 2-4 [website] and the Colfax Cruise September 19 [website] where Christine was invited to be a "local celebrity" judge for the Mazda of Lakewood car show!
